Today, let's talk Backstreet Boys. Seriously.
First, if you have no clue who they are, you might as well unsubscribe now because I have nothing to offer you :)
Oh - and on a personal note - I'm not ashamed I've been a fan of "boy bands" since first hearing Ralph Tresvant from New Edition belt out "Candy Girl". A nicely crafted pop song with tight harmonies.. well, I'm in! (although my 15-year old daughter likes to say, "Dad - it's weird you're a middle aged man listening to the Backstreet Boys!!).
Still with me? Good!
If you're like most people, you might have thought they broke up 20 years ago. But you'd be wrong. Really wrong.
They never stopped recording music. Never stopped touring. Never stopped performing.
Yes, their popularity has waned over the years going from sold-out stadiums in the late 90s to a recent residency in Vegas.
BUT - they never stopped movin' forward. That's right, they never gave up. Never quit... even in the face of ridicule and everyone tell them to quit.
And after years of getting virtually no love on the radio - they're back with new song that are hits. Yup, they are BACK.
In fact, all four of my kids know their new songs.
So what does this have to do with you? And why am I writing about the Backstreet Boyson a "health" site?
The reason they're back and popular again is because they've embraced their boy band harmony foundation AND are bringing it into 2019 with new songwriters. Which is giving them a fresh (but familiar) sound.
How can you take some BSB lessons into your life?
Don't forget WHO you are. Your essence. Your foundation. What makes you special. What's important to you. What what makes YOU.. you.
Think warmly about the past. The good memories. The warm 'n fuzzies. BUT combine that with living firmly in the present.
The backstreet boys are NOT teens anymore. They're in their 40s and are dads. They aren't dancing around with scantily clad women in the videos. And they didn't go with the disturbing "face tattoos and mumble rap" trend.
They're embracing age with grace. And you can (and should) do the same.
So maybe, just maybe, we can follow their lead and lean into the years with a fresh perspective.
Do you "want it that way"?
I think you do :)
You got this.
